Self Improvement by definition is the act of improving one’s qualities or skills to provide a better livelihood. It involves multiple spheres of personal character building which comprises of the emotional, mental and the physical aspects of human. It is perhaps for these reasons that the importance of self-improvement is seen to lie in enhancing individual self-worth, competency and hence the general human worth.
Make some time, on a daily basis, to sit down and ruminate over your ideas and behaviours. The act of journaling can play an important role in this process. Make use of friends or relatives who you can trust to get true and genuine information about yourself. It can give a different view of your behavior, or at least some aspects of it, and what needs improvement. Meditation or mindfulness would be helpful in managing your thoughts and feelings or by staying in tune with them. One can make use of personality dimensions such as MBTI (Myers-Briggs Type Indicator), or enneagram in order to understand specific characteristics and tendencies.
It is wise to discuss achievable goals that one is capable of meeting. It is always desirable to set high standards that put one on the edge to ensure he or she strives to work harder; however, it is equally important not to set goals that one cannot achieve.
